In the heat of the election season and as a life-long political junkie, I can’t wait for election night. It is always one of the biggest nights of the year around my house. Glued to multiple TV’s, tuned to every station (and now the Internet) I watch the returns roll in. Depending upon your investment in the campaign, the emotional highs and lows intensify. It’s even better to be at a party. Some friends ask why I don’t wait until the next morning to read the headlines. Would you turn off the TV before the end of the big game and find out the score tomorrow? This is an important political year full of excitement, so it’s easy to be engaged. We’re probably finding more people expressing their opinions about politics than ever before. But what about doing this at the workplace?

Political expression comes in a lot of forms. I have to admit I got a little uneasy when I pulled into my office parking lot and saw a bumper sticker that said something derogatory about meat-eaters. Now, I don’t have anything against my vegetarian friends, yet I do like a nice steak now and then. What might people think about the opinions displayed at work? Might they be offended?

What about expressing strong political opinions in a small office environment to co-workers and clients? Unless you’re working in the campaign office or at the legislature, this might have its limits. I did a little research on how well the workplace tolerates political discussions. We know that public employees (and many who work for private companies) have to adhere to specific guidelines. Those rules may include personal use of company computers and the wearing or distribution of political materials. In general, private, at-will employers have a great deal of latitude in how they manage their workplaces and what political tone they choose to set.

Even if the flexibility exists for employers, politics in the workplace can bring about workplace politics. There is some basic etiquette one can use to keep tensions down. How you handle yourself may depend if you’re in management or not. There appears to be a tolerance for conversations among co-workers, but managers are held to a different standard. A national survey conducted in May and June 2007 by Harris Interactive, found that nearly one out of four U.S. workers says they are uncomfortable when their top managers openly express their political preferences at work. More than a quarter of those polled said they don’t fit in with their company’s culture in terms of politics. The survey found generational differences between younger and older workers regarding talking politics at work. Seventy-six percent of younger employees (age 18-34) would share their political views, compared to 64% of those age 50+. Eight-four percent of younger employees were comfortable telling their boss which candidates they support. This is compared to 68% of older workers who would do the same.

So do you tip-toe around your passion for R’s or D’s? How can you inspire an excitement for politics at work while not creating unnecessary tensions? At a very minimum, you can create an environment that values voting. It is not inappropriate to inquire is employees or coworkers need registration information. If the outcome of certain ballot measures could affect your business or clients that could also be acceptable for discussion. Alerting family, friends and co-workers to important debates, forums or community meetings may also create involvement and engagement without appearing bias. If you’re in a politically charged environment that can be exciting, but what’s most important is that you vote, your vote is yours, it’s private and it’s important. I hope you’ll mail in your ballot and be part of this great process. Remember, on election night don’t call, I’ll be busy, unless you’re having a party…..

What role does the powerful new media play in Politics? The short and long term effects cannot be denied. But does the new media offer us sound political information or simply entertain us for profit and ratings?

The New Media

Every so often, the mass media system in the United States experiments significant transformations that signal a new plateau in its evolution. Widespread recognition of the new media’s role on the political scene occurred during the 1992 Presidential campaign. The candidates flocked to talk radio, television talk shows, news magazine programs and the internet. Although the media offered many options to deliver their views, the debate as to rather or not the content was informative or entertainment had begun.

Talk Radio

If there has been one communications format that has become emblematic of the new media, it is talk radio. Talk radio used to be the “night shift” of the airways. Talk radio reinvented itself. Talk radio became an important candidate forum in 1992. President George H. Bush interviewed with conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh. By 1994 nine talk radio hosts ran for statewide or local office. Most were unsuccessful, but their positions in talk radio gave them legitimacy as
candidates.

Other unsuccessful candidates such as former New York Governor Mario Cuomo and New York Mayor Ed Koch moved into local or national talk show host jobs. Talk radio had a political platform. Americans were tuning in. Ratings were up. Profits were rising. Talk radio had become a force to be reckoned with.

Television

Cable television opened the airways for an onset of media opportunities. Time slots were filled with talk shows and news programs that you could tune in twenty four hours a day. The television media quickly enhanced their position in the political process. Politicians and the mainstream press could not help but take them seriously. One of the criticisms levied against the television media was that they trivialized serious issues of governing by mixing politics with entertainment. Every political issue at hand could now be analyzed and scrutinized twenty four hours a day on cable news. Campaigns had to give a second look on the role of media in politics. The media could be a tool of support or a thorn in your side. Campaign strategy had to be changed. The power of television was not to be denied.

The Internet

Twenty five years ago the term “modem” did not even appear in the dictionary. Modems connect people to online computer services such as CompuServe,Prodigy, America Online or MSN, and to hundreds of thousands of world wide websites and home pages. Increasingly, the internet has become a tool for political communications as well. On the net you could gain political info, express political opinion, and mobilize other voters and political leaders. You could also make political donations. In this years Presidential race, candidates have raised literally millions of dollars online. The web has become a electronic town hall. In a brief time, the web has grown into a major player in the new media.

Conclusion

The media has found its niche in today’s politics. Rather its talk shows, television or the internet, they have laid a foundation, built a platform from which to voice their social agenda and flex their political muscle. How much of that voice is quality content is still up for debate. One thing is for sure, if you want to succeed in politics, it will not hurt to have the media in your corner.

An online forum is a way to hold an ongoing discussion by multiple users over time. The term has also been used when referring to the software application that creates the forum. Other names for an online forum are message boards, discussion groups, forums, and electronic bulletin boards.

The predecessors to online forums were the internet newsgroups and dial-up bulletin board systems, which were accessed by dialing a specific number. Online forums have a unique sense of community that is very different from that of a blog or website, and have regular devoted members. Today’s online discussion groups are focused on a variety of areas from politics and technology to dog training. Many established online forums are actually a group of smaller forums that are grouped around a central theme. For example, a dog training forum could have smaller forums covering large dogs, small dogs, Labrador retrievers, German shepherds etc.

Online Forum Software features

A discussion that is held in a forum is called a thread. Some online forum threads can be a one or two comments long to multiple pages of comments and replies going back several months or even years. The threads will remain on a forum indefinitely or until a moderator removes them. Many of the more popular threads become what is known as a “sticky” or a permanent forum entry. Sticky’s are usually the result of a large number of forum members asking the same question over time. By posting a sticky, this eliminates the need for the same question being asked repeatedly. One of the most common stickys’ found are usually the forums posting rules.

Today’s forum software will allow more than one forum to be created which act as a discussion room focused on a specific area of a larger topic. These individual rooms contain the threads started by the various group members. You can compare the structure of a forum to a school. Each room covers a different topic, i.e. math, English etc. and the school structure holds each of these classes in one building. Online discussion forums are structured in much the same way.

Forum software can be grouped into two general categories. The type that allows visitors to make anonymous posts and the type that requires visitors to be registered in order to view or make a comment to a forum thread.

The type that requires a visitor to register usually only requires a valid email address in order to join the online discussions going on within the forum. Some additional features of this type of forum software may allow for personalization of the forum skin, signatures and/or the users’ avatar or image associated with their username. The forum software that allows anonymous posts usually does not allow any type of customization to the user interface.

Forum software applications are available in a wide range of programming languages like PHP, JAVA and Perl. There are different features available and depend on the type of programming language used and whether the posts are stored as text files or database entries. The features available range from the basic text-only to the use of things such as emoticons, which are little smiley face type, images that can be inserted to a post.

Some online forum software packages allow administrator to setup filters and automated scripts that will remove any undesirable words such as cursing, or strip any hyperlinks placed within a forum thread. This helps to prevent abuse of the discussion group.

Discussion Group Administrators and Moderators

The administrator of an online forum has privileges that no other member should have. Some of those privileges allow administrators to edit, delete, move or modify any thread on the forum. Forum administrators also have the ability to close the board, make major changes to the forum such as changing the forum theme, add or delete discussion groups or sub forums within the main forum as well as remove, add to or ban members from the forum.

Moderators are usually given privileges by the administrators and are usually delegated the responsibility to oversee or “moderate” specific forum areas or topics. The moderators of a discussion group help the forum administrator by editing, deleting, and moving threads as needed. They also act as hall monitors warning members for any offenses to the forum posting guidelines. The presence of responsible moderators can enhance the quality of an online forum.

Online Forum Users

The members of any online discussion group usually have the same basic abilities. They can make comments or posts into existing discussion threads, start new threads, and assign an image or avatar to be posted with their name. Depending upon the forum software, users may also be able to send and receive emails or personal/instant messages from other forum members. Members can also create their individual forum signature where they can add a link back to their personal website if they wish. This practice also leads to abuse by members making multiple posts just to increase the number of links to their website.

Forums usually require a member to check in to view new discussion threads or see any posts to threads they are following. However, many modern forum software solutions allow an e-mail notification sent to users to notify them when a reply or post is made to a particular thread.

We’ve often heard conservatives and Republicans claim that the media is completely “Liberally Biased” and the reality is that although the numbers do not lie, there are conservative venues that also dominate, such as conservative radio and the Fox News Channel. All this political banter causes a great deal of unrest and a lot of sound and fury. Admit it, we all enjoy a little bit of chaos and controversy. But has it gone too far and have the Hollywood Celebrities jeopardized their stardom on a political agenda?

Rather than sit and debate what is right, who is left, and why, let me instead introduce you to a politically charged book, which speaks from the right, and from that point of view. Much of what is written is hard to debate, although one who is left leaning might find fault with it, and the author’s references and cites. The book is:

“Hollywood Nation; Left Coast Lies, Old Media Spin and New Media Revolution” by James Hirsen (newsmax dot com). He also wrote; “Tales from the Left Coast” and both books are published by Random House, New York, NY; 2005 (this book).

This book goes through what the author calls “self-proclaimed and appointed Hollywood Experts on all political affairs.” People like Barbara Streisand, Sean Penn, Michael Moore and countless others, as the writer addresses issues of misrepresentation, mixing up of facts, and actual intent to deceive in order to convince the audience of a political viewpoint.

Mr. Hirsen holds nothing back as he speaks of the New York or East Coast newsrooms and the Left Coast Studios. You will learn of their tactics, distortions, and how the celebrities use sex to promote their political agendas. There is also a very interesting chapter on Mel Gibson’s movie; “The Passion of Christ” and the hypocrisy of Michael Moore’s films. You will find this an interesting book; if you lean left you will be appalled, and if you lean right, it will preach to the choir. But, I guarantee you’ll find it interesting.

On the road to 2011 general election, the political temperatures are rising, and political parties must respond. In Karamoja, the climate greatly dictated people’s lifestyles. The same would be expected of Uganda’s political parties on their way to 2011 polls.

They must have been tiding up on the way to the forth coming general election. Lately, the media reported an agreed pact by the opposition political parties -led by Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to form a coalition -with exception of Democratic Party.

In another report, National Resistance Movement (NRM) towel was dragged down when one of their senior party officials got pinned down for involvement in dubious deals -something that would damage NRM bid for 2011 presidency. Meanwhile, the same sources said the President had dissociated himself from the troubled officials -and allowed the law to take its course.

It is a time when political parties begin packaging, branding and re-branding their manifestos for the political market. The question of whether we shall have something new rather than the old same stories would be there for Ugandans to answer.

But 2011 could be a time when people are much fatigued by elections since 1996. More so, could be fed up of voting same opposition political party candidates without success, yet at the cost of standing in long queues for hours.

And with the same excuse being that elections were rigged. How to raise people’s hope and confidence amidst fear of election rigging and voter buying, this time round, would be another challenge to the opposition political parties.

Still, It is a time Ugandans would need to see their concrete achievements both, as a political party in power and, as one preparing for victory in the forth coming general election. The incumbent, still, must have an inch in those achievements because the visible changes occurred during his reign. This, in turn, would demand that the opposition begin their speeches by first; to appreciating the ruling regime for the strides taken to make Uganda what it is today.

However, the presidential candidates -without military background would have to find and extra point to make. Much as people refuse to accept, Uganda is a new Nigeria -where time and again, a presidential hopeful must be an army general. The same message could go to the young generation aspiring to become Uganda presidents.

The strategy of forming a coalition, still, remains an inevitable one -on the part of the opposition political parties, if they are to pose any sort of challenge to the ruling NRM. Democratic Party’s deviancy in the face of the fact therein -was simply being unaware the purpose or simply lost touch with it -as an opposition, it was selfish, and above all; childish.

You cannot be asked to take a safer path, where there are no landmines, such that no harm is inflicted along the way to your home -and simply say no. Such actions were not only self-defeating, but showed that the person is just stubborn for no reason. How can you spend over 46 years without knowing how being power feels like and, then, you continue demanding more on katebe?

More still, it is around the same time when political parties check their resource base and make active mass voter consultations to boost voter confidence and trust. And use the same opportunity to disperse members of the research desk to asses’ political party strength -which could be ideal.

As of now, Ugandan politics would be said to have reached a fairly good level -when Ugandans shall no longer be afraid to indentify with the political parties they support. At the same time, they would could have the freedom to vote alternative political parties, where they do not belong -but without necessarily defecting.

Media support could be another very basic component to add in the presidential bid plans. There should be no excuses of media control. Simply, media access must be met. Older political parties might have been very intelligent, then. It is unbelievable to note that they at one time owned party newspapers. If they had not mismanaged their own assets, they could be, by now, richer than President Museveni’s NRM.

While DP had The Citizen -as its private media, UPC owned The People. Now, their views are only limited at political party offices. Even with press conferences they make, not everything is included in the final new print -a luxury (of exclusive information relay) they enjoyed with their own newspapers. Yet, also, at the times of elections, there could be a conflict over media access. The question, still, remains are political parties prepared for 2011 general election?

With police laws, unless permission was denied on acceptable grounds, matters of reaching out to the masses at this time are a must-execute. Amidst any bias by Uganda Police, it could be a matter of self-service. The police, then, would be labeled a failure, and having turned against the people they must serve.

It is, also, a time for making friends across ideological lines -without having to be aggressive or confrontational. These people may sympathize and vote candidates out their political parties. Indeed, there have been cases, where family members refuse to vote their own father!?

The court business, too, must be evaluated. Having to say going to court would be the alternative, can be a waste of time. After all, it has never worked for anyone. The focus, instead, could be to register election victory -as simple as that. Any otherwise, would be show of no political party purpose in the exercise.

Besides, there must be readiness for the cost of getting to victory. Very expectedly some fanatics could get hold of arms and shoot at anyone to intimate and divert voter purpose. And if unlucky, it could be, this time round, a presidential candidate. If in Makerere University strike, there could be a maximum of about two deaths, national elections could have more -given the different population sizes and seriousness of the contest.

However, political parties must remain stead fast, and choose to play a safe game of non-violence -yet focused on demonstrating the need for victory. The local terrorists could be left for time to tell their fate -naturally (spiritually) or artificially, judgments exists and no one is safe upon inflicting pain on another.

Unix inter-process communication (IPC)

Throughout history, young men have been used as the heart of political parties – acting as both young democrats and militant wing. Lately, women also went aboard. They sustained the political parties’ “lives” while out of power, and worked to celebrate with it in power.

Uganda young people were critical in the struggle for independence. Through political parties like Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) and Kabakka Yekka (KY), they relentlessly advocated to free Uganda of foreign rule.

Their energetic selves and ability to take risks helped in organizing and executing political rallies in the country side, and made strategic alliances that ensured success of the independence bid. Those who engineered the struggle were young charismatic Ugandan youth. They managed successful political rallies that readied Ugandans for independence.

In the pre-colonial times, the youth were providers of security to the community or kingdoms. Political parties today too could be banking on the youth to mobilize other others, rally majority support to it, and in protection of votes against rigging.

UPC had the youth league, while the rest Uganda People’s Movement (UPM) and Democratic Party (DP) -where themselves, the youth. Upon dissatisfaction from the 1980 elections, UPM and DP young men and women went to the Bush -fight UPC out of power.

And because of the youth power, among other things, UPM turn National Resistance Movement (NRM) and DP were victors in a war against an elected government of Late A.M. Obote, and together formed a government -famously referred to as broad-based government.

Perhaps, Busoga support for a young Kyabazinga could be of much value in as far as development and putting across kingdom pertinent issues is concerned. As a youthful Kyabazinga, he could want to see, for- example, all kingdom property controlled by it and helping register Busoga presence at local and international scene. And, at the same time uniting Busoga for development actions.

Kyabazingaship too should be able to attract foreign visitors -resultant from its influence. And signing and ensuring common protective policies with other kingdoms that would preserve the integrity of Busoga. This would be the true sense of the return and presence of tradition institutions in Ugandan rather than a mere conversation about it.

Unlike with the elderly politicians, who struggle to preserve status quo, for the youth would think and act for reform, rather than sit to “baby sit” hands. They would always want to search and experiment new political or leadership ideas and implement them to meet sky-rocketed visions. Also, they would be out and forth to defend their political party goals, and even want to sacrifice life in the process.

They would be highly strategic in either finding their way into government or consolidating political party’s rule. And they could want to do anything to that effect -be it rigging elections violence and intimidation, formation of coalitions, and power- sharing -in case of general elections.

Mass youth political pressure could be so powerful that no tear gas could easily break them down. They always have their country at heart -and are willing to struggle up to the last minute. 2011, for example, would come as an opportunity for political victory of the youth. This gives them an earliest period to take action. People say knowledge is power, but in this case, the youth are a power, and must exercise it.

But success of youth movements would also depend on the health organizational structures of their political parties -that answers questions about flexibility to changing times, whether it easily deals with external pressures or challenges, whether it has able widely acceptable leadership (internal democracy), whether it carries out periodical survey about its strength and carry out necessary checks, and above all; whether it is impermeable to allow the youth demonstrate their leadership potential

The DP is one party that relishes the youth as its vehicle into the future, voluntarily defend party goals, express and demonstrate their political rights -and on behalf of Ugandans -while, also, speaking for the voiceless. These unique features are no where in other parties. Most political parties in Uganda are comfortable with old folks and do anything to suffocate the youth’s influence.

The NRM that could follow DP in that regard is like a person who hosts a visitor, but does not allow him or her cross the door to a sitting room. Rather, chooses to have any entertainment with them, in the compound.

And the youth usually get come in response for war drums -when Kizza Besigye makes a shock political pose to the regime. Unlike DP -where youth act voluntarily, in NRM, they are paid. This is not sustainable. This, still, presents DP as the most youth friendly party. It is capable of taking its youth for a meeting as far as the bedroom.

For Forum for Democratic change (FDC), the youth presence therein is like in boxing -where after a long of one being undisputed champion as if no more challenger left, people get bored and begin disliking the whole state of affairs.

Luckily, one man stands up and says, “Come and see. Come on and support me. I am going to fight and defeat this man. Hey! Come and check out.” This is how the youth might have ended up in FDC.

It seems from the strategic alliance made shortly before independence, DP chaps thought nothing of value about it -whilst boasting of popularity in the mainly central Ugandan and some parts of eastern Uganda.

It seemed as though the thinking was that one -who was victor in central would take it all. The subject of coalitions, therefore, remains alien to them. It is no surprise, there fore, that they are now not subscribing to it.

On the other hand, where arms would involved, the youth are capable of wrecking havoc, terrorizing masses, triggering mass killings, maiming and raping, destruction of infrastructure and taking country to several years back from the current level of development. Observers say Uganda is over thirty years behind Malaysia and Indonesia in as far as their development levels are concerned.

Moreover, It would be more likely for young men to have unlimited power in the running of government. There fore, dictatorship could be more from them than out of youth category (elderly) -where a person with initially good intentions turns out to be oppressive and undemocratic.

He could expectedly suspend the constitution and rule by decree. Life presidency would, actually, begin here with the youth -and with nepotism, as though a monarch. It can be observed that future dictators might have taken the throne as youths. At this stage and with addiction to power along the reign, a return to democratic rule could be more a dream than reality. Anarchy and apathy could, then, be the ultimate.

They could be very unpredictable -who would with ease shift away from one ideology to another depending on what political youth peers or night dreams say. And implementation would be by decree.

The shift across political ideology by youths -whose political parties are out of power, could also as popular as to defect from one political party to another -where there is more youth friendliness.

The main worry with young people could be that they are opportunistic. Their ambitions are usually a combination of intuition, partly in response to adolescent changes -with desire for identity. Economic reason would be the other -something that has to do with need for employment. For them, they are always ready to take on the challenges and chances.

US State tax list

My dear readers, today I would be talking to you about the insensitivity and unparliamentarily conduct of all the Indian Political leaders. How low these leaders can stoop to grab the Chair of Power (COP) is beyond the perception of intellectuals and Common Ordinary Man (COM)? The political debate in other countries including USA needs to be study and implemented in Asian nations and India as well.

Is this the standard of leaders Indians are looking to lead and guide the destiny of India? Certainly, not.

.The War of Words (WOW) started by United Progressive Alliances (UPA) Chairwoman Sonia is really an unpardonable Act of Constitutional Profanity (ACP). Retroactively, the response of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leaders have also become equally sacrilegious How criminal it is to use politically motivated abuses, scoffs and hatred filled parlance against each other is a point of debate?

Dear readers, the WOW has begun when Sonia Gandhi has generally termed BJP leadership and Mr Narendra Modi Gujarat erstwhile Chief Minister, in particular the Merchant of Death (MOD); and, thereafter, a chain of mudslinging commenced by either sides to attack and counter attack each other political party cadres and organization. What a shame of Indian political immaturity that after six decades of Independence Indian lead by foreigners are engaged in a WOW of inconsequence matter.

Another biggest disgrace for the Indian Political System (IPS) is the preferences of Indian political leaders of main ruling and opposing parties. The problems of people of electricity, water, food sky rocking prices, corruption and misappropriations of billions of rupees scandals have taken a back seat. How low politicians crouch to gain power esteem readers to understand? If Indian readers are perusing you are advised to search for a better option.

While Congress, ever since her inception has a history of dreams of ruling India, but the BJP which has risen with people’s support has another dream making India self reliant Ram Rajya means period of honesty, truth and simplicity. The Gujarat election in India has opened a new debate of people to understand and give votes to people who delivers.

Are Indian political leaders like Rahul, Priynka, Sachin pilot and many others forced upon Indian masses like Indian media? The poor Indian masses are once again crushed between deep sea and devil. Where to look and go? The clout of uncertainty and troublesome future created by Main Indian Political Parties (MIPP) is not going to be erased from the mind of younger generation.

Venom spitting speeches of MIPP in Gujarat has once again refreshed the memories of mid seventies when Srimati Indira Gandhiji was struggling to make her carrier stabilized. The political canvassing then and now has totally different both in nature and matter.

I would like to discuss as to how deeply Indian’s minds are frozen with the killing of a criminal illegally without trial, and not the true issues of importance for the entire population of the Gujarat State. The Congress is raising issues of Suicide of Farmers in Gujarat but has forgotten over 3000 suicide in Congress rules States of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. How can you spit on others face when your own face is blackened for similar crimes? Mr Sibal has been very vocal in propagating her part’s achievements, but he had forgotten that the FONG had opposed partition based on two religion theory of Jinnah not Pundit Nehru. He should also remember that beginning of Political Abuses has been initiated by UPA President and Congress head of the Party. There is no justification who drafted the speech but there is always a remorse for the people to hear such abusive, filthy and dirty political debate away from main human issues of people.

Has MIPP become issueless or these parties are non-concern for anyone? The decision to reward and punish these political parties is left to the people of Gujarat but certainly law can take its own course. Even sua motto case should be filed by judiciary herself both against UPA chairwoman Sonia Gandhi and Sri Modi for abusing public and entire nation. If BJP Merchants of Death are ruling States than, why UPA government is not dismissing them to bring criminals to justice? Why UPA is allowing continuance of criminals in politics? It is a matter of National debate and left to the people of India.

My own analysis reveals that none other than Muslims themselves are responsible for their dismal plight today in India. They were given equal opportunities and chances to participate in country’s progress, but due to their narrow outlook beyond Islamic study. They always linked religion with technology and remained confined to local communes. The Congress and Left Front Communist Parties (LFCP) have exploited minority community to gain power and remained insensitive after that. During my survey, I have observed that over 30 percent of Muslims have an unknown hidden fear amongst themselves in Gujarat where as over 45 percent are neutral and enjoying both Minority Community and Political Parties cake and only 25 percents are still with Gujarat Development and Modi. The tilt is going to be over 33 percent of people who live in rural areas which has been week point of Congress so far.

Let us wait and watch the effect of Political parties filth which has sprayed in the streets of Gujarat and people verdict to teach a lesson to such leaders that Indian are now matured and not an arena of Political mudslinging. I will debate further role of Congress and her hierarchy of external tastes.

Rhetoric of Congress spoke person Mr Manu Singhvi’s repeated assertion that Congress President and UPA Chair woman used the words Merchant of Death for Mr Narendra Modi speaks of criminal intent of highest political leaders and hollow ship of their minds. Mr Manu’s negation of clarification and even out casting another Congress front man Mr Sibal remarks to make it more emphatic needs Indian Judicial System to take a Sue-motto cognizance of the political mudslinging WOW; and take these leaders to Court of Law not only for abusing over one billion Indians but also insulting the Freedom of Speech (FOS) article of Indian Constitution, Infact, none of the leader is worth respect and regards.

This Politically Correct stuff is just going too far. I never did like the concept of anyone being treated with kid gloves just because they were…whatever. That seems to me to only accentuate the differences that are trying to be eliminated, and awfully condescending. Most people don’t need laws or rules or oaths to be decent human beings. I am going to narrow this whole PC fiasco down to the subject of critiquing.

In the olden days before Politically Correct was born, writers understood the difference between constructive criticism and a negative, personal flame. They knew what they were going to get when they asked for a critique, and used what they could to improve their work. Or they ignored it. It certainly was not a crime for a reviewer to point out an area that wasn’t working for them.

In today’s world if you give a critique, there will be more than one person protesting the reviewer, and reminding them of the old adage, “If you can’t say it nice, don’t say anything at all.” This charge is not always led by the writer. It’s often led by a PC observer who has not read the work and doesn’t intend to; nor cares if the criticism hit its mark and is valid. They are only concerned with the feelings of a writer, and it being posted on a public forum.

If a writer intends to share his work by publishing it, even if it’s an online writer’s group, they are opening up their work to constructive criticism. It doesn’t matter if it’s a writing to release their pent-up emotions or just for fun. If it’s posted publicly, they are publicly asking for opinions. What they do with those opinions is their business. But, no one has the right to insist that all feedback be praise. Nor do they have the right to restrict the public comments to those that rave and praise.

If they truly don’t want critiques or low rates, all they have to do is post an author’s note at the top of the page stating this. Tell the readers it’s a personal piece and they aren’t looking for reviews. They can still receive readers and stars. Readers should respect their requests and not critique the piece! Read, Comment and Rate is okay.

Keeping constructive reviews private robs the members who view the public review page of the opportunity to learn and grow.

It keeps those members who do want constructive feedback from receiving it because…

these PC advocators are very good at discouraging the reviewers who want to help.

Imagine, a writing site where constructive reviews are not encouraged.

Catering to a small group who complains of constructive feedback is done to the detriment of those who hope to publish someday. Anyone who writes merely to bask in the warmth of praise isn’t interested in publishing in the same way. He is a dabbler. He doesn’t want or need critiques. Some don’t, and that’s okay. But, they really should say so.

They should not set the standard for those who are ready and willing to work hard. A writer wants to tell the best story he’s capable of telling. He’s willing to put in the hard work, and he will at least try to accept ‘negative’ constructive feedback. He might cry and hit the wall, but he always comes back. He isn’t destroyed by one or two critiques. A real writer knows the difference between a personal flame and a constructive critique.

If a writer has the nerve to post and share his work in a public forum, he has the nerve to receive criticism without falling apart. We should be giving him the right tools to strengthen his writing, which will strengthen his confidence, instead of assuring him his work is already perfect and he doesn’t need to listen to those mean ol’ reviewers.

By giving only Politically Correct reviews, we’re keeping them down where they will never learn and improve. That’s not politically correct, in my opinion.

Now tell me, is that nice?

It is amazing, but I can’t tell you how many couples have probably had their sexual encounters with each other interrupted because their political views are different. I don’t know how Madeline and Carvel do it? I don’t mean that in the physical sense, but emotionally.

Picture a couple, it could be your spouse, significant other, or whatever relationship you are in–one person is on the Right side of the aisle and the other is on the Left or vice-versa. Recently, my wife and I were having dinner with another couple, during which inevitably, a verbal confrontation broke out over politics. It doesn’t matter what side you are on, even if your spouse agrees with you, blood starts to boil because you just broke the cardinal rule. “When out with friends, never discuss politics or religion.”

I couldn’t tell you how many times my wife has said to me as we were driving to meet friends, “If you discuss politics at dinner I am getting in a taxi and going home.”

You already know that no matter how many times she says, “don’t,” it falls on deaf ears. Because, even if you didn’t start the conversation, one of your friends will. If they don’t someone at the next table will be discussing the news of the day in a very loud voice and eventually turn to you and say “right buddy?” And, you will answer. “Whatever you say fella.” The next thing you know, you are now in the middle of a debate with a total stranger. The rest is history as your wife shouts, “Waiter, call me a cab.” Literally translated, “call me a cab” means three-weeks on the couch.

The vitriolic rhetoric that is expressed between friends because of politics has gotten so out of hand that long-term relationships are deteriorating. People have stopped talking to each other. There have been physical assaults against people’s property. Tires have been slashed, dogs have been intentionally walked on each others lawns and in one case I know, windows have been shot out with a pellet gun. It is absolutely insane.

The problem is that it is not getting any better. The cultural divide in America is so out of control that if you lined up the Left and Right on two sides of the street they would be throwing stones at each other. Heaven forbid it if they were armed. That may sound like a bold statement but, unfortunately I mean it. I don’t have to spell it out for you. As you are reading this, I am willing to bet that you know of at least one incident that fits this category.

I was playing golf one day when suddenly one member of our foursome stormed off carrying his clubs and shouting, “You’re an idiot. You have no idea what you are talking about and don’t ever ask me to play with you again,” all over politics.

How many times has your wife said one of her friends called and wanted to go to dinner? You know her friends husband’s political views are diverse from yours and that you just don’t want to be around him. Statements like, “She’s O.K., it’s him I can’t stand. Have a good time” can be heard in many homes across America.

The rancorous feelings have spread to a larger scale. I recently addressed a group about Radical Islam. I was screening the movie “Obsession, Radical Islam’s War with the West.” When the movie was finished, before I even had time to ask for questions from the audience the shouting started. “I want to see the Moslems side to this film.” “That movie is nothing but Bush propaganda,” another shouted. It started to get ugly so we called it quits when the president of the organization grabbed the microphone and shouted that they are not a political organization and did not condone my political speech.” I never got a chance to say a word. There wasn’t any speech political or otherwise. It got very ugly. There were over 225 people in the audience and me. I kept looking for a flying chair to come my way. Luckily it didn’t happen. Thinking quickly I said, “Refreshments are now being served in the next room.” How do you calm down an unruly crowd? ‘Free food,’ it works every time.

The vitriolic feelings are so intense, that this has left me pondering a very incisive question. One of your political enemies, who used to be your friend, suddenly collapsed in front of you and went into cardiac arrest. The question is, if you knew CPR would you use it? If the tables were turned would they?

And, that is my frightening opinion.

News of Solar Power and Alternative Engery

I am going to provide a short review of the Nation magazine from a self proclaimed liberal’s perspective. I will also explain why I enjoy reading this magazine so much. This magazine is quite an old publication, it has been publishing since 1865. That is 135 years old, which speaks volumes to its longevity and relevance. Especially considering that magazines and newspapers come and go; some don’t last long at all. Some definitely last longer than others. I like really like and appreciate that this particular magazine is funded by loyal subscribers and donors, called the Nation Associates. When I choose to donate to an organization, I always make sure to donate to this worthy publication.

I have been a loyal subscriber for many years and thoroughly enjoy receiving this magazine in my mailbox every week. In addition to the print edition, there also is a website; with having a website in today’s times helps keep it relevant. I believe that it is good for the country to have a liberal publication such as the Nation to help balance the conservative publications. I hope more liberal publications get founded and start publishing to join this intellectually stimulating magazine. After I read my issue for the week, I find myself going to liberal blogs and forums and becoming politically active and involved. After reading the weekly issue I get plenty of ideas that I want to give me opinions on. There are so many issues going on right now, that this publication gives me a refreshing liberal perspective versus a majority conservative one. I think the articles are written by top notch writers and contributors that hence produce well written articles and well researched ones. This reminds of way back when, when there was such a thing as investigative journalism; not soundbites. Think Woodward and Bernstein or the late Dan Rather. I sure hope that the Nation receives a Pulitzer Prize soon.

In addition to being a political magazine, there are also book reviews, articles on sports or society etc. It is also refreshing that there are not that many ads as compared other magazines. When I read a publication I would rather read about the issues than a bunch of ads. There are at least ads about books that one can purchase, which I don’t mind at all.

I hope after you read this review, you go to your local bookstore and buy a copy to learn a different perspective on many far ranging issues, especially in today’s divisive climate. Or go check out their website to further your understanding of many different political issues in a different light.
