I am going to provide a short review of the Nation magazine from a self proclaimed liberal’s perspective. I will also explain why I enjoy reading this magazine so much. This magazine is quite an old publication, it has been publishing since 1865. That is 135 years old, which speaks volumes to its longevity and relevance. Especially considering that magazines and newspapers come and go; some don’t last long at all. Some definitely last longer than others. I like really like and appreciate that this particular magazine is funded by loyal subscribers and donors, called the Nation Associates. When I choose to donate to an organization, I always make sure to donate to this worthy publication.

I have been a loyal subscriber for many years and thoroughly enjoy receiving this magazine in my mailbox every week. In addition to the print edition, there also is a website; with having a website in today’s times helps keep it relevant. I believe that it is good for the country to have a liberal publication such as the Nation to help balance the conservative publications. I hope more liberal publications get founded and start publishing to join this intellectually stimulating magazine. After I read my issue for the week, I find myself going to liberal blogs and forums and becoming politically active and involved. After reading the weekly issue I get plenty of ideas that I want to give me opinions on. There are so many issues going on right now, that this publication gives me a refreshing liberal perspective versus a majority conservative one. I think the articles are written by top notch writers and contributors that hence produce well written articles and well researched ones. This reminds of way back when, when there was such a thing as investigative journalism; not soundbites. Think Woodward and Bernstein or the late Dan Rather. I sure hope that the Nation receives a Pulitzer Prize soon.

In addition to being a political magazine, there are also book reviews, articles on sports or society etc. It is also refreshing that there are not that many ads as compared other magazines. When I read a publication I would rather read about the issues than a bunch of ads. There are at least ads about books that one can purchase, which I don’t mind at all.

I hope after you read this review, you go to your local bookstore and buy a copy to learn a different perspective on many far ranging issues, especially in today’s divisive climate. Or go check out their website to further your understanding of many different political issues in a different light.
